Do I have to braze the suction lines on a heat pump when installing a unit that takes 410a refrigerant?
Most likely, unless it’s a ductless mini-split system that uses flare connections. Check your equipment installation manual to be sure.

Why are the Red valves labeled liquid and Blue valves labeled vapor on recovery cylinders? Also who recertifies recovery cylinders?
We’re not sure how the valve colors were selected. To make it even more confusing, not all recovery cylinders have the same valve color coding. Some have the opposite red and blue assignments. Because of this, you should always look for the word “Liquid” on the valve to tell you which port has the liquid…

I’ve been pulling a vacuum on a 410 system and the compressor keeps grounding out (it’s not a burnout, I tested it for acid). The oil in the vacuum pump comes out black and has a foul odor. I can get the vacuum below 500 microns, but do not want to start the system until the oil in the vacuum pump is clear. I’m using a Yellow Jacket 11 cfm pump and Yellow Jacket oil with Yellow Jacket black hoses. Please advise.
Try changing the oil and run the pump isolated from the system for a while to see if the color and odor reappear. If it doesn’t reappear, then the problem is with the system. If it does reappear then the inside surfaces of the pump may need to be cleaned.

If the refrigerant compressor needs to be replaced, do I have to use the vacuum pump, or just replace the compressor and fill up with refrigerant?
While the compressor is being replaced, the system will be open to the atmosphere. Pulling a deep vacuum after the repair is completed will remove air and moisture that has collected in the system. This is an important step to maximize system performance and reliability.

What are the differences and similarities between an electrolyte sensor and a heated diode sensor?
The electrolyte sensor has superior sensitivity to HFC refrigerants. It requires only a small amount of heating, resulting in a longer sensor life and the ability to withstand large doses of refrigerant without damage. (Heated diode sensors date back to the 1950’s. Our electrolyte sensor was launched in 2001.)

A gauge is just a gauge, right? If so, can gauges that are marked for r12, r-22, r-502 accurately read r134a and r404 as well?
When it comes to pressure readings (located on the outer ring of the gauge), it doesn’t matter what type of gas is being measured. The difference is in the temperature scales (located on the inner rings of the gauge). These temperatures are based on the Pressure-Temperature data for the specific refrigerants. If you rely on…

I bought a 41123 liquid to vapor converter. Which side should face the r410 cylinder, the male or female side? Or, which is liquid side and which is vapor side?
Thank you for your question. The orifice inside the 41123 liquid charging adapter will give the same performance with either direction of flow. It is intended to be installed directly onto the male cylinder port.

I know refrigerant 410A must be charged into a system in its liquid state, but must be metered slowly into the low side. Is it better to use a low side restricter device or just crack the gauges open a bit to act as a restricter?
Liquid charging is recommended when charging blends into refrigeration and air conditioning systems. A liquid charging adapter is necessary for safe and fast liquid (saturated vapor) charging through the low pressure side of a system. The YELLOW JACKET liquid charging adapter (YELLOW JACKET 41123 1/4” or 41124 5/16”) connects to the cylinder valve or refrigerant tank….

Do I need a filter between the hose and the suction port on my RecoverXLT to protect it from contaminants? If so, a filter/dryer or a trap separator? Does the YELLOW JACKET filter/dryer have a changeable cartridge? I know the YELLOW JACKET trap separator does. Do they both have the same filtering capabilities?
The 95760 (Recover XLT) is equipped with a built-in particulate strainer (located behind the suction port) to keep debris from entering the system. It is important to keep the built in particulate screen clean for optimal performance . To do so, unscrew the suction port by using an 11/16 wrench to unscrew the hex head…

What are the advantages of using a evacuation manifold on a vacuum pump instead of just using a set of regular gauges?
The main advantage of the evacuation manifold is that it provides a connection point for two larger diameter hoses right at the vacuum pump. This allows you to maximize the hose diameter, minimize the hose length, and minimize the number of fittings and potential leak points. This combination will give you the fastest evacuation. A…
